May 3-11: “My Life in Photos” has a new look!

I’ve spent the past few weeks re-thinking the style and content of these weekly recaps, and I found myself really enjoying the process. I was stuck in the design phase and having fun there! So, I just kept going and now My Life in Photos feels brand new. What do you think??

I’ve been leaning towards this magazine-like ‘template’ for a while, but I hope that this latest iteration helps you really see the vision. You have your usual sections that are featured in every ‘issue’—find ‘What I Saw’ in the front, and ‘What I Ate’ in the back. Plus, you’ll find a new page titled ‘the recipe’, where I’ll share the ingredients and instructions for just about anything—not just food! Plus, the big editorial packages in the middle that will switch up week to week.

What I love about embracing a magazine format is that it makes the ordinary moments in my life feel news-worthy. Because they are! It could be as simple as having dinner with friends, but then there are all of the details that made that dinner special. There’s magic in the mundane, and it’s my hope that you see it too. Maybe you’ll start to notice the glimmers in your own life that are worth celebrating!

I’m very inspired by the print magazines from my childhood—American Girl, Highlights, Family Fun, and Seventeen. I draw photography inspiration from old DK Children’s Illustrated Encyclopedias, Kid’s National Geographic, and Walter Wick, the iSpy photographer. I just got a new light kit from my friend @heatherbarnesphoto and I’m excited to see how it elevates my work.

All that said is why it has taken me so long to share this week from back in May. But as I am reminded often, there is no real timeline. I’m not “late” in posting and I’m not “behind” in sharing my art. As long as I’m enjoying myself, and I really am with these collections, all I have to do is keep going. I’m having a great time, and I hope you are, too!

If you’d like to show your support, I would ask you to please sign up for my newsletter (link in bio). I’ll send you updates on my work, and you’ll actually be the first to see the full MLIP each week. For those following on IG or Substack, I plan on spreading out the posts throughout the week. I spend a long time making these, so I think I’m gonna squeeze the juice out of them as much as I can.

Thank you so much for following along. Whether you are featured in a post, or just liking and/or lurking from the internet ether, I’m glad you are here!  — Xo RTR
